Eden Ministry began in 2003 when several of us sensed God’s burden for prostitutes as we walked the streets of China’s red light districts.
Since that time, we have discovered that many of the women we meet have been led into prostitution through deception or have been trafficked through organized crime syndicates. Other women have left their villages in search of employment in the big cities, hoping to earn an income for their poverty stricken families. Due to their limited education and lack of contacts in the cities, these women find few decent job opportunities. This reality, combined with the lure of a high salary with no educational requirements, leads many such women to prostitution.
SHELTERS
Eden has set up supervised apartments in red light districts where women who are ready to leave prostitution can get free room and board. Trained counselors are on site to mentor, disciple and counsel the women through their emotional scars and to help them grow spiritually in Christ. The women can also learn life skills and train for a new career.
Our approach to reaching these woman with Gods love takes many forms:
MEDICAL CLINIC
Due to the spread of HIV/AIDS and other STDs in CHINA, Eden educates women on safe sex and the dangers of STDs. We also offer crisis pregnancy counseling and free medical check-ups and treatments as part of our holistic approach to reaching these women.
AWARENESS
Eden reaches out to local teenagers to educate them about sex trafficking. We are committed to giving these young women the tools to recognize potentially dangerous situations and to avoid the world of prostitution.
PRISON MINISTRY
Our ministry to women serving prison sentences is led by local Chinese staff. We visit the prison weekly, bringing food and toiletries while sharing the hope and joy that is available to them through a relationship with Jesus Christ.
STREET WALKING
Our staff is regularly on the streets prayer walking the red light districts. We visit brothels, sitting and drinking tea with both the women and the brothel owners, taking this opportunity to build trust and friendships. We talk about the dangers of their profession, offering our clinical services and the hope of a new start at our shelters.
JEWELRY
Eden also runs a jewelry workshop, where the women involved in our programs can earn a safe, positive living while they are transitioning into a new life outside of prostitution. Our jewelry is for sale right here on the website and all proceeds from those sales help support former prostitutes.
